To promote renewable energy, India has set the
ambitious target of 175GW RE by 2022, which has accelerated the pace of
renewable energy in the country, as well as the business is making a strong
effort to buy it.
A new report by WWF-India, "Renewable Energy
Demand in India: The Report provides the vision of corporate renewable energy
buyers, increasing the corporate RE procurement trends.
Mr. Girish Pradhan, former Chairman, Central
Electricity Regulatory Commission and former Secretary MNRE said, "Because
of the many factors due to ambitious renewable energy targets, active policies,
private partnership, India has doubled its RE capacity in the last three years,
That was a sharp change in the field of electricity.
According to the report, Corporates constitute more
than 50% of India's electricity demand.
Nearly 70% of the top 100 companies on the NSE are
already purchasing REs, 27% have made greenhouse gas commitments, and 22% have
made renewable energy commitments.
It is encouraging to see that the increasing number
of corporations is less than 100% of renewable electricity, and the government
wants to be able to make changes.
This will not only boost the upliftment of RE in
India, but will generate greater business for the discom, while reducing the
likelihood of losing existing customers.
