Sitharaman proposes 'one nation one grid' for power sector in India

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman focused on India's current power
situation and underlined the steps taken by the government to solve the
problems of the region.

The Finance Minister highlighted the states "One Nation One Grid" scheme for affordable electricity. He said that there is a lot of need for power reforms - like improvement in electricity rates - should be taken soon.

The Saubhagya – 'Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana  :-In
September 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was introduced to achieve
domestic electrification by providing Las-TME connectivity and electricity
connection to all the households in rural and urban areas.

The government's dashboard shows that till today, 100% electrification
targets have been completed in all the states except Chhattisgarh -
where the current yield is 99.67%. This remarkable achievement meant
that, according to the World Energy Outlook 2018, without the reach of
electricity, the total global population has decreased to 1 billion for the
first time.

According to Power and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh, now
all the Indian households have been electrified, the attention of the new
government is on providing 24-hour electricity at affordable rates

Piyush Goyal had announced in the interim budget: "By the year 2014, about 2.5 crore households were forced to live without the power of 18th century.Under good fortune, we provide free electricity connections in almost every household. By March 2019, all interested families will get electricity connection. In mission mode, we have provided 143 million LED bulbs with private sector participation. About Rs 50,000 crore has been saved in the year.

In thermal plants, coal will contribute approximately 79%, while the rest will come from lignite, natural gas and liquid fuel. The nuclear plant will contribute 3.3%, while the hydro power will be 10%.

It has been learned from a policy review of the scheme that government departments and local bodies have run the power bills of Rs 41,386 crore in the first nine months of 2018-19. Unpaid large bills such as these have affected the operation of Discom in areas such as cash flows and capacity. Other issues such as insufficient tariff revision and delayed subsidy have reduced their crisis.
